Facing a Storm? It’s Often Clearest Afterwards

Are you facing a storm? It’s often clearest afterwards.

“He makes the dawn and the sunset shout for joy.” Ps. 65:8

A storm rolled through our city yesterday morning. The wind picked up swiftly in speeds upwards of seventy mph bending trees and blowing debris.

Rain pounded against our windows and created small rivers as drains struggled to keep up with the quick flood of water pouring through the area.

Have you ever felt like that was your life?

Have the storms in life in such a torrent that you couldn’t keep up and that your life was being pummeled by the wind and storm?

It’s important that we understand that the storms in life are what create anchors. Did you know that trees that are grown in an environment with no wind will eventually topple over?

The lack of resistance during their growing season doesn’t allow the deeper tap root to form which is the deep stabilizing factor for the tree that keeps it upright. In the absence of wind and storms the tree will never produce what is needed to keep it upright even in the calm.

God is not the source of your storm. He is not to blame. Sometimes we are the source of our storm by bad decisions or responses and sometimes our storms are injustices not of our own making. In either case, storms are hard, but can be beneficial.

There is a purpose in the process.

We grow, strengthen and develop deep roots in the soil as we turn to Him and to the Word to anchor to in the storm.

Storms don’t last forever and their may be a time of cleanup required afterwards. But once the skies clear there is also a peace, depth and beauty that has come from the rain. Rain signifies purifying, refreshing and nourishing. It brings life to what was dry. It is important that we allow it to do so during and after the storm.

So are you facing a storm? Remember it’s often clearest immediately afterwards.

There are things learned and developed in the storms of life that are never produced in the calm when we allow our roots to dig down deep and anchor.

I encourage you today to dig down to the deep well of water that will restore your soul, restore joy in your journey and anchor you to the Rock.

You turned my mourning into dancing; You removed my sorrow and clothed me with gladness, so that I can sing to You and not be silent. Lord my God, I will praise You forever.
